History
Design Mechanical, Inc. (DMI) was founded in Quincy, Illinois on May 1, 2000, as a full service Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design firm by Eric Meyer, P.E. and Kris Rueter, P.E. Chris Livesay joined the firm as a partner in 2012.
Staff & Licensure
Mr. Meyer is president of the firm and specializes in industrial mechanical design (including process piping, ventilation, and controls), plumbing design and fire sprinkler design. Mr. Rueter is the secretary/treasurer of the firm and is principal in charge of electrical design. Mr. Livesay is principal in charge of HVAC design. Together, the partners at DMI have over 60 years of mechanical and electrical engineering design experience.
We are currently licensed in the following states:

- Missouri
- Iowa
- Nebraska
- Michigan
- Florida
We have registered Fire Protection Engineer status with the General Service Administration (GSA).
Experience
Our projects include design and/or renovation of office buildings, retail buildings, tenant interiors, restaurants, educational facilities, childcare facilities, churches, medical clinics, skilled care facilities, manufacturing facilities, storage facilities, and many other commercial and industrial facilities.
We have considerable experience with a wide range of HVAC systems including Air Systems, Water (Hydronic) and Steam Systems, Geothermal Systems, Air/Water Combination Systems, Unitary Systems, VRF Systems, and Radiant Systems. We strive to provide the most energy efficient system possible within the construction budget on every project.
In addition to HVAC, we offer a full complement of plumbing and piping design services and have experience with hot water and steam systems, refrigeration systems, fuel storage and distribution systems, process piping systems, medical gas systems, compressed air systems and fire sprinkler systems.
